Workshop on
"Next Generation Sequencing: An Overview"
Organized By
Biotech Park, Lucknow
Sponsored By
Department of Biotechnology Govt. of India

About the Biotech Park, Lucknow
The Biotech Park, Lucknow, located in the city of Nawabs, decorates Lucknow with a futuristic State-of-the-art facility for biotechnology-led enterprises. It is the only functional biotechnology park in North India, serving the State of Uttar Pradesh to bring biotechnology as a way of cultivating crops, living a healthy life and enriching skills for boosting the biotech industry. The Park was set up jointly by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India and Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. In a short time, it has fulfilled not only the dreams the country had in 2002 when Lucknow was declared as “Biotechnology City”, but has also enabled the State to provide a platform for the “Make in India” mission.

About the workshop
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies have progressive advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness, unprecedented sequencing speed, high resolution and accuracy in genomic analyses. The rapid innovations and steadily lowering cost of sequence-based chemistries along with the development of advanced bioinformatics tools have lately prompted launching and implementation of large-scale massively parallel genome sequencing programs in different fields ranging from medical genetics, infectious biology, agriculture sciences etc. The advent in high-throughput sequencing technologies have been comprehensively implemented for several applications, including whole genome sequencing, de novo assembly sequences, resequencing, and transcriptome sequencing at the DNA or RNA level , to accelerate biological and biomedical research. This revolutionary technique has been widely used for genomic identification, genetic testing, drug discovery, and disease diagnosis as well as in predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory medicine approach. Applications of NGS are also broadening in agriculture now is vital to Plant breeding, disease diagnosis, basic functional genomics as well as in crop improvement and management. SNP markers are already becoming the predominant marker types in modern breeding strategies.

This workshop would be based on various tools and databases that are used in Next Generation Sequence Data Analysis, Pathway Analysis, Gene Network Analysis, Transcriptome/ Metatranscriptome Analysis, De-novo Transcriptome Assembly.
